- dad was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia
- since we all live in different countries, we decided to go on a trip together, father and sons
- before the illness advances
- sometimes dad seems very lost
- inside his own world
- but then he comes back and connects with us
- we rented a car and drove around
- dad always with his cap, sunglasses and his little purse where he packs a bit of everything
- he sleeps a lot and at any time
- he prefers help when shaving
- and remembering to take his pills
- we spent halloween together
- sometimes he acts like a child, like when we went to NASA
- he takes a lot of pictures even though most are out of focus or poorly framed
- we had to get him a wheelchair
- because he walks very slowly and he gets tired quickly
- he eats like crazy
- he takes pictures of plants and bugs
- we were able to dine together
- he generally has a hard time leaving the bed
- but sometimes he connects and everything is as usual
- he has a voracious appetite, specially when it comes to ceviche
- despite the changes that come with the illness he still is our old man
- and we’ll meet again on the next trip
